Thanks

man-person-cute-young.jpg

For the smell of a new born baby’s hair

We should give thanks.

For the chill of November morning air

For the opening strains of a favourite tune,

And the glimpse of true love across a room

We should give thanks.

For the first sip of a well earned drink

We will give thanks.

For our favourite uncle’s friendly wink,

For the kiss of gentle, late summer sun

For the chatter of children having fun

We will give thanks.

For the warming glow of a winter fire

We should give thanks.

For the joyful chorus of Christmas choirs,

First sight of snowdrops, promise of spring,

For the long lazy days that summer brings

We should give thanks.

For all the sounds and sights and smells

The things we see and hear and feel

For the senses that deliver these

We should give thanks.

Laughter (Triolet)

charlie-chaplin-copy-circus-white.jpg

You so crease me up with laughter

That a tear comes into my eye

But the thing that I find harder;

When you crease me up with laughter.

And just act dafter and dafter;

Is no matter how hard you try

You crease me up with laughter

But I still see a tear in your eye.

Some days the sun

pexels-photo.jpg

Some days the sun wakes feeling good

And stretching down, a smile upon its face,

It reaches out and pulls aside the clouds

To cast its light on each forgotten place.

We feel its warming breath upon our skin

And gladdened do not linger in our beds

But rise to meet that beckoning day

A summer lightness in our heads.

And memory’s made of days like this

When gracious sun bestows its kiss.

Remembered days, each sweet as this.

Our childhood days when school was out

And time was ours and we were free.

Or watching children of our own who play

And giggle, sun warmed, blissfully.

We need the sun to cheer our sky

So may it shine on you today.

Flaunt

businessman-fashion-man-person.jpg

You flaunt your wealth

For all your worth

Wealthy braggart

What could be worse?

You don’t much care

For the likes of us

Shove in our face

Ill gotten riches.

So full of yourself

Too big for your breeches.

You’ve few real friends

For all your riches.

Bluebell Woods

I walked today through bluebell woods

As the sun dappled through the trees.

A good dirt path beneath my feet

And a small dog off his lead.

It was a perfect woodland scene

We’d the breath of spring in our lungs

So good to simply be outside

A part of it all alive

Bubble

via Bubble

You said we can’t live in a bubble

Insisted the bubble should burst.

We dropped to the ground in an instant

And people around us got hurt.

You can’t rely on a bubble

They burst and people get hurt

You drop to the ground in an instant

It’s real and that means people hurt.

It’s real life that really matters

Life in a bubble’s no good.

You can’t always live in a bubble

Though sometimes I wish that we could.

The Polar Bear

There’s a polar bear

On the Isle of Wight

A fact not many know.

But he’s stark and white

Against the cliffs

And plain for all to see.

He’s not as fierce

As some can be

But marks his territory.

Bungalows,

The retro feel

He protects them avidly.

A polar bear

On the Isle of White

Seen across the sea

A striking sight

Against the rocks

Protects his territory.

Mentor

I called you my mentor

But sometimes tormentor

Was closer to being the truth.

I’d try but I’d fail

And the cost of my failure

Was often that you’d hit the roof.

I’d try very hard

But I’d just hit the ceiling

And  your expectations were high

Just went through the roof.

I’d try hard to please you

But often displease you

I guess that’s just how you are?

It can never be known

If you’d left me alone

The creature I might have become.

But you are my mentor

It’s been an adventure

Without you I’d never have won.

Lamb National

28749B34-7724-4F54-A5E3-9DE3DAA4522E

Big event at Ascot;

The Queen is sure to go.

We’re tired of watching horses

Give the lambs a go!

They’re full of spring time frolics

Will easy take the jumps.

Watching lambs in spring time

You can’t be in the dumps.

We love to see them gambol

Great to watch I bet.

Put your woolly jumper

On the one you think is best.

Don’t let bookies fleece you

The odds are not the best.

There must be honest bookies

But I’ve not met one yet.

Lambs frolic round the meadow

By way of Beechers Brook.

‘Mint Sauce leading Gravy,

Mutton coming through’.

Not sure who you bet on

But I bet on the ewe.

Thought I’d backed a winner

But I never do.

You flock around the winner

Ram it down my throat

Glad you backed the winner

Do you have to gloat?

I lost all my money

Really gets my goat!

Seems I went for mutton

That was dressed as lamb.
