Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

Sitters versus standers
A critical debate
It happened in the Orkneys
And this is how it went.
You have to stand while speaking
Or so convention says
But someone raised a motion
That claimed the right to sit.
The Chamber was divided
Provoking great debate.
The Standers would not stand for it
Opposed the right to sit.
A Councillor cited Churchill
He bothered to leave his seat
To make his famous speeches
“We’ll fight them on the beach”.
It’s a lowering of standards
The Councillor expressed
Just what he predicted
When biscuits were allowed.
Tea and coffee, custard creams!
Standards had collapsed.
The Sitters scorn his argument
Why take it lying down
They stand up for the right to sit
Declaiming with a frown.
Why can’t they sit in comfort?
It shows no disrespect.
Who thinks that the electorate
Are bothered by all that?
They had a heated argument
Then put it to a vote.
The Sitters won 11-9
The right to sit and speak.
There’s reasons why we do things
And reasons why they change
But ‘because we always have done’
Is no reason not to change
So here’s to all the Sitters
Who stood up for their rights.
Sit up and pay attention
To the right to stay sat down.
Well .done
