A Man of Pedigree

A man of undoubted pedigree

Distinguished by great dignity

Of such auspicious ancestry,

Impressive genealogy

To the tip of the root

Of his fine family tree.

He’d present himself impressively

And his manners were quite genuinely

Refined and quite impeccably

Beyond the local peasantry

The rough and ready likes of you and me.

Alas it often seemed to me

That the family’s eccentricity

Could often seem suspiciously

As if they bred too speedily

And often not too brainily.

So though they dressed impressively

It wasn’t clear so obviously

That they were, very, very smart.
