Don’t let life happen to you

There are people who make things happen
And people things happen to
If you don’t take control of what happens
Then things will happen to you.

If you don’t want to be life’s victim
And just let life happen to you
You have to make some choices
And make things happen for you.

If you don’t take charge of what happens
Then good things won’t happen for you.
If you don’t take control of your life
Then other people will.

Wise Words

Wise Words can come
From the mouth of a fool
It’s not what you say
It’s the things that
You do.

You can quote self help gurus
Till you’re blue in the face
But if you sit on your hands
You will stay the same place.

At the end of the day
You must step out in faith
You can’t walk on water
If you’re still in the boat.

The Past is gone

The past is past, it’s gone it’s flown.

No point dwelling on regret;

It won’t come back. The chance’s blown.

For all we sit and sigh and groan.

However much we sit and fret.

The past is past, it’s gone it’s flown.

The things back then we wished we’d known

Lessons we learned we won’t forget.

It won’t come back the chance’s blown.

There may be chances to atone

A different option, better bet.

The past is past, it’s gone, its flown.

We learned the lessons we have grown.

The future hasn’t happened yet

There’ll be new chances not yet blown.

Let go the past, though don’t forget

We’ll grasp the future not yet met.

The past is past, it’s gone it’s flown

The future we will make our own.

Believe

Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

You may think you can

You may think you can’t

In either case you’ Will be right

To succeed in life you have to believe.

If you don’t think you can

Then you won’t.

Maybe’, ‘might’ and ‘I’ll try to’
Are enemies of getting things done
Commit in your heart; say,
‘I can and I will’ and the goal
Will surely be won.

My favourite food? What’s on my plate.

What are your favorite types of foods?

My favourite food?

What’s on my plate.

It’s seldom I’ll complain.

Variety’s the spice of life

Enjoy what you are given.

I love a plate of home grown veg

With meat or fish accompaniment

Perhaps a roast with gravy an’ meat

Or tray bake in the oven.

Sometimes we will spice it up

My wife does brilliant curry.

Rice or pasta, bring it on!

Bulgar wheat, quinoa.

Chinese can be very good

We love a stir fry Friday

But Indian, Thai, a twist of French

Whatever comes my way.

I’ll happily try a Michelin Star

Or fish and chips for supper.

Some have food but can not eat

And some would eat but have none

We have food and we can eat

So thank the Lord we’ll eat it.

With acknowledgement to Robbie Burns for the last bit.

An open invitation to all us running bores….

How often do you walk or run?

An open invitation

To all us running bores.

You want to know

How much I run

I’ll tell you

You’ll be bored.

I’m obsessed with running

As runners often are

But we know that

no one’s interested

That’s basically the score.

So now I’m going to tell you

But only cos you asked

I know that no one’s listening

Another silly prompt.

I don’t run as I used to

quite as many miles

But still go out at seventy two

Four, five times a week.

Most of the runs

are four to six miles

with a long one

At weekends.

My weekly average mileage

Twenty five, thirty miles

But that is just the running

Seldom count the walks.

Walking’s more a social thing

I’ll often go with friends

I don’t see it as exercise

Just fresh air and outside.

And then there’s all the walking

That you’ll just normally do

Back and forwards into town

Or round about the place.

My daily average step count

Is thirteen thousand steps.

So to those still reading

I have to wonder why?

It keeps me fit and healthy

But what does it mean to you???

Rise against the Prompt!

Do you see yourself as a leader?

Today I’ll be a leader.

Rise against the Prompt!

I write for you dear reader

Not this errant bot.

We need true inspiration

Not lame robotic prompts.

Follow and I’ll show you

How they could be dumped.

Comrades, show resistance

Against these shallow bots

Forget the prompts

Write from the heart

And show them what you’ve got.

I’m not the kind of leader

Who’ll tell you what to do

I like to paint a vision

Then I’ll leave it up to you.

If you don’t like my vision

Well frankly I don’t care

But if you choose to follow

I’ll have your back, be there.

I’m not a one to chivvy

I won’t beat down on you.

I’d rather be a follower

If that’s what I must do.

I’ll show you where we ought to go

But then it’s up to you.

Bots can get us going

Help a little bit

But personally I write for you

It’s not some bot exam.

Write to entertain us

Write what pleases you

Show them less respect please.

Show what YOU can do.

Go in peace

What’s your favorite word?

The peace of the Lord be upon you

We’re friends we come in peace

Escape from all disturbance

Seek out peace and quiet.

Bring an end to conflict

Just give peace a chance

Not a passing treaty

But everlasting peace.

It passes all understanding

The precious gift of peace

The peace of the Lord be upon you

An end to strife and grief.

Blessed are peace makers

They are the children of God

So the Peace of the Lord be upon you

And remain till you Rest In Peace.

May peace, love and good fortune

surround you the rest of your life

The wind at your back

and the sun on your face

I bid you go in peace.

Tuesday Training

What are you doing this evening?

You asked me what I’m doing

This is what I’d planned

So much else is happening

It might just all go wrong.

You’ll know I like

To do my page

Using verse and rhyme

But today for various reasons

That’s not what will be done.

So the plan is:

Tuesday Training

Intervals: 8 x 4 mins

19:10-20:30

Springfield Road (Clubhouse)

Workout
8 x 4 mins (2 mins rest)
Total Time: 32 mins
Pace: 10 seconds / mile quicker than 5k pace
Route: Springfield Road
Coach: David Ross

Liar, liar pants on fire

What personality trait in people raises a red flag with you?

Never, ever lie to me

Or tell me an untruth

I catch you in a bare faced lie

And that’s the end for us.

You’ll some times

Coat the truth a bit

Or dress it up a bit

But deception is a different thing

The trait I hate the most.

If you’re not reliable

I can’t trust what you say

Then you’re not a friend to me

But someone to avoid.

Liar, liar pants on fire

Stranger to the truth

Cross, your fingers,

Hope to die

And do not tell me lies.
