Fervour

The English don’t do fervour

It isn’t quite our thing

It’s only at the football

You’ll hear the English sing.

You’ll never see our flags wave.

Hear patriotic songs

Until in summer, four years gone

The World Cup comes along.

The years of disappointment

The fifty years of hurt

Are all to soon forgotten

In hopeful English hearts.

We’re shouting at the telly

Cheering on the team

We even find some fervour

To sing, ‘God Save The Queen’.

We hate to get our hopes up

We know how it will end

But then again it’s football

Who knows how it might end?

Fervor

Today’s word of the day is fervor or fervour as it’s spelled in English. 😃

Crest has totally fallen

My crest has totally fallen

I’m down and out depressed

All those little problems

I never quite addressed.

I’d kind of got my hopes up

But now they’re totally dashed

It wasn’t meant to be like this

My big ambition crushed.

I was so near the summit

I thought I reached the crest

It seems there is another slope

So can’t let up or rest.

There is no sense in moping

You’ll not get anywhere

Dust yourself off and carry on

The prize will still be there.

Nefarious

Nefarious activity

Stuff you’re doing wrong

Mightn’t yet be criminal

But I guess that won’t be long.

I guessed you were a wrong’un

Capable of crime

Criminal activity

Just a case of time.

One for dodgey dealing

Proper little spiv

Sorry to speak ill of you

But that’s the way it is.

Introduce a plot twist

Introduce a plot twist

A sudden change of course.

Introduce a character,

a trauma, new event.

Shake the whole thing up a bit

Knock it off it’s course

A little bit of tension

Added drama, stress.

You need some grit in the oyster

Or you’ll never make a pearl.

WORD PROMPT: INTRODUCE

For those who, unlike me, are keeping up with the challenge, today’s word is introduce.

sadness

sadness is living

in places

it shouldn’t live

it can creep

in the very bones

of a person

you don’t see it

it just is

it drops your head

and shrinks your chest

there’s no reason

it just is

it’s on your clothes

it’s in the air

there’s no reason

it’s just there.
